Health and Safety Representatives' Support Program

The AEU actively supports the work of elected Health and Safety Representatives.

The Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Support Officer position is funded by Worksafe and is shared by Janet Marshall and Bob Maguire. Email Janet Marshall or Bob Maguire or phone 9417 2822.

Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) support program objectives

  • Encourage the formation of workplace Designated Work Groups (DWGs) and the election of HSRs (and deputy HSRs where negotiated)
  • Assist HSRs to better understand their rights under the OHS Act and increase their knowledge and capabilities in OHS issues
  • Promote the benefits of consultation between employers and employees on OHS matters and the establishment of networks to support elected HSRs
  • Provide HSRs with access to OHS expertise and resources to assist them to represent their DWG

In 2008 we will be seeking to keep in touch with HSRs via a regular electronic newsletter. We will also organise HSR network meetings in regional areas. We will speak to new reps at VTHC training courses and also AEU reps at the 21 AEU Active courses that are already scheduled for the year.

We will take every opportunity to promote the role of the HSR including speaking to principal networks and Departmental committees.

Please let us know what information you would like available or any way we can support you.
